Society (1989)
Details
It's not especially Christmassy but Society is one of my favourite 80s horror films, a subversive examination of the differences between the haves and the have nots in society, that's smart and creative enough to be available on BFI Player. It also has one of cinema's greatest gonzo horrorshow endings. Don't say I didn't warn you!
So, what's it about? Young Bill Whitney has a life most people would dream of, living among the elites in Beverly Hills. But why does he feel like he doesn't really fit in with his family and friends? Is something freaky and weird going on, or should he listen to his therapist and just learn to be part of...society? (Yes, this is an all-time 'They said the title of the movie in the movie' film)
The trailer is here, but I wouldn't recommend it as it's pretty spoiler-ific.
Tickets are just over £7 including booking fee and available here. This is a Bar Trash night, which usually takes place at the Genesis but which has since branched out to this place, Beer Merchants Tap in Hackney Wick. So, even if you aren't into the movie, or the lengthy intro and spot prizes that come with one of these nights, you should at least enjoy the beer.
