Writer-director Whit Stillman's debut is almost proto-mumbelcore, as middle-class student Tom gets sucked into a group of upper class socialites who spend all their time going to debutante balls and having discussions about things. The script crackles, the cast (especially Stillman favourite Chris Eigeman) are very likeable, and the film manages to be both really funny and have a bit of pathos in.
