First of all, a big thank you to everyone who came to our last event! Another amazing turnout, and I'm incredibly grateful for all the additional feedback and suggestions you've given me.
And welcome to our home every month at The Ship in the City of London! 🍻
You don't actually have to be South/South East Asian or Ginger to join.
The idea is simply to create a place where you can come and meet South/South East Asians and Gingers in tech.
You're always welcome, and please bring your friends too! The more the merrier. ❤️

# 🎲 WHAT'S HAPPENING?

We'll have both upstairs and downstairs, with different things happening throughout the evening.

### 🎲 Board Games — Downstairs

🙋 Anyone fancy bringing a game along?
If you've got a favourite game you're willing to bring and teach, let us know in the WhatsApp group!
Bring along something you enjoy playing and hopefully we'll discover some new favourites together.

### 💡 Lightning Talks — Upstairs

Led by Stan
We'll have some short, informal lightning talks for knowledge sharing, self-introductions, and networking.
We'll do these before the karaoke starts, around 7:30pm, so don't be late! 😆
The length of each talk will depend on how many people sign up, so they'll stay short and informal rather than being fixed at a specific length. The more people who want to speak, the shorter each talk will be.
There's no need for anything polished or overly serious. Just share something you think the community might find interesting or useful, or introduce us to what you do!
Want to give a lightning talk? Join the WhatsApp chat and let Stan know! You can also chat with Stan if there are particular subjects or topic areas you'd like people to share.
Then we'll switch over to karaoke once we're a bit more merry from drinking haha. 😂🍻
Once karaoke starts, deeper conversations can move downstairs, where it'll be quieter and easier to actually hear each other.
Party animals can stay upstairs! 😂

It's back again! Yes indeed. 😂🎤
Get ready for questionable song choices, questionable singing, and hopefully some surprisingly good performances.

Let me think about what format this time — food is a big part of our community gatherings!
I'm considering whether you'd like to do a home-cooked dish to bring and share with everyone. What do you think?
It's completely optional — if you don't have time to cook, just bring yourself! 🤤
♻️ A quick note about food: Unfortunately, we can't guarantee anything for allergies, vegetarian/vegan or halal requirements. If you have dietary restrictions, please don't rely on the food provided and make sure you bring or grab something that works for you.

# 🍻 SUPPORT THE VENUE

They've given us this space on the proviso that we spend at the bar, so please support The Ship and our community by grabbing some drinks while you're there!
The relationship with the venue is important to me, and the more we support them, the more we can hopefully do together in the future.

# 💡 THIS IS YOUR COMMUNITY

The original idea was simply to come along and socialise, but you've given me loads of suggestions for things you'd actually like to do.
So we're going to experiment as always!
Maybe the board games become a regular thing. Maybe the lightning talks become a bigger part of the community. Maybe karaoke is an absolute disaster and we never speak of it again. 😂
We'll figure it out together.
I want this to be a community that you help shape, rather than something where I dictate what happens every month.
If there's something you'd like to see at future events — talks, workshops, hackathon-style challenges, team competitions, games, food, or something completely ridiculous — let me know!
And if you'd like to help lead something, even better. 🙌

# 📸 A QUICK NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS & PRIVACY

As you may have noticed, I don't really like taking many photos and I value my privacy — and I'm sure many of you feel the same way.
You're absolutely welcome to take your own photos and memories, but I don't want photos from our events being used for marketing our community, so we're not going to make photography a big part of these events.
Instead, I'd love your help growing the community the old-fashioned way:
Word of mouth.
Invite your friends, colleagues and family who you think would enjoy meeting the community. ❤️
But otherwise, let's keep the focus on actually being there, meeting people and having a good time, rather than documenting everything.
