An ex-Policeman walked into a pub... Yes, the incomparable Stevyn Colgan (Speaker (https://www.speakezee.org/speaker/profile/1185), Twitter (https://twitter.com/stevyncolgan), Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevyn_Colgan)) is our guest speaker (~7:30pm) talking about Scotland Yard’s innovative Problem Solving Unit and the many, many, ~MAH-NEY~ things he's been involved with and written about in his new book, Why Did The Policeman Cross The Road (http://unbound.co.uk/books/why-did-the-policeman-cross-the-road)

(His previous book ‘Connectoscope (http://unbound.co.uk/authors/stevyn-colgan)’ is available now. ‘Saving Bletchley Park (http://unbound.co.uk/books/saving-bletchley-park)’ (co-authored with Dr Sue Black) is October. ‘Policeman (http://unbound.co.uk/authors/stevyn-colgan)’ is next May.)

Stevyn, amongst other things, writes for BBC TV series QI (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QI), and BBC Radio 4's The Museum of Curiosity (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Museum_of_Curiosity). He was awarded the Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Police_Long_Service_and_Good_Conduct_Medal) in 1993 and the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen%27s_Golden_Jubilee_Medal) in 2003, and was a member of the award-winning Met Police Problem Solving Unit that used business techniques and creative thinking to tackle issues that did not respond to traditional policing/enforcement methods.

A regular at the Ig Nobel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ig_Nobel) Prizes, and Skeptics in the Pub (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeptics_in_the_Pub), he also plays a mean set of drums. They won't be featuring on Monday.

If you're not coming, I hope you've got an alibi!

The boat (for those with us in 2014) is having a refurb so we're in-land at the sister pub near Piccadilly Circus called 'The Comedy Pub (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=51.51019287109375,-0.1321669965982437)' – the same great behavioural network without any sea-sickness!

We have the top floor room, and all mod cons (inc. beer on tap, lavatory, fridge wine/bottle cooler, screen, chairs tables).

Check the dates: SECOND MONDAY (for those who a. hate boats, and b. can't do Tuesdays) for the informal evening gathering for communications, marketing, and research specialists working with behavioural sciences (behavioural economics, decision theory, psychology, neuromarketing, etc) in business or government who're in, or are visiting, London (UK).

http://www.londondrum.com/pubs/?r=10005697

It's the great networking place for practitioners, academics, and clients to meet and chat about all aspects of cognitive-behavioural communications – and it's in a central London location.

Feel free to drop by for a bit, or stay for a while. It’s a very friendly bunch, and all are welcome. And do bring buddies you think may enjoy it.
