Synopsis (from the BFI website)
A swashbuckling adventure on the high seas, with Flynn playing an Irish doctor held captive, along with other rebels, in the West Indies. The prisoners escape on a captured Spanish warship and sail away to live on the high seas as pirates, with Flynn’s titular skipper leading the way. The film was nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award and was first to pitch the naturally athletic Flynn against master swordsman Basil Rathbone.
