A handsome nobleman lies close to death on his sick bed, but the haunting tones of a woman’s singing revive him, and he determines to find out who she is. This musical was the final collaboration between the UFA and Gainsborough studios, boasting the lavish sets and costumes that German studios were renowned for. Lilian Harvey brings a coquettish charm to the lowly chanteuse, while Charles Boyer exhibits the star quality that took him to Hollywood. Composer Franz Waxman went on to build a prolific career in film music and became a double Oscar winner.

We will meet up in the foyer 15 minutes before the film starts, and go for a drink/snack at the venue after the film.
