Which series shall we do next? In person meetup! Plus Nimona by Noel Stevenson!
Details
We finished Sandman! So now it's time to choose which comic series to do next.
We'll also be discussing 'Nimona' by Noel Stevenson, a following Nimona, the impulsive young shapeshifter and Lord Blackheart is a villain with a vendetta... It's £5 on Kindle, £ 11 in hardback https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B00N0W1XGU
This will be our first meeting in person for quite some time. We're planning on having it outside, but can retreat inside the church if things get rainy. It's a Saturday afternoon, so hopefully those of us with kids will be able to make it! The church has a nice courtyard with chairs and tables, so should make a nice place to meet.
We'll probably spend most of the time catching up and discussing geeky things, but we will also be deciding on the next series we read.
Definite contenders are:
Miracleman by Alan Moore and Neil Gaiman - a 80's classic by two of the biggest names in comics. Miracle (or Marvel) Man, a British superhero from the 50's (who bears an uncanny resemblance to Shazam) is brought back into a depressingly real 80's, and we see what superheroes might actually do to the world...
Papergirls by by Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang follows four papergirls on their delivery around a small local town, when things start to go weird. A comic about nostalgia, first jobs, and the last days of childhood. And Vaughn actually managed a decent ending.
Berlin by Jason Lutes examines the fall of the Weimar Republic through the eyes of its citizens, vivid in detail, fully realised characters and extraordinary events. It's collected as a single 600 page volume, but it will need three sessions to read!
Feel free to make other suggestions, then come along and make the case to read them! And if you've read any of the above you can argue for (or against) them too!
