Ditchling Beacon via Jack &Jill windmills
Details
Superb panoramic views are waiting for you!
Ditchling Beacon is the third-highest point on the South Downs with spectacular views across the Weald.
We will be passing the two 19th century corn windmills on the way and have two breaks admiring the views from Ditchling Beacon and a stop at Chattri Indian war memorial.
Please note that it can get VERY WINDY on the Downs and so you might want to bring some ear protection if you are sensitive to this and/or prone to headaches.
Also note that there are grazing cattle all over, so if you have a fear of COWS this walk is not for you.
The walk starts at 9.45.
Meeting point is at Hassocks station.
You are responsible for your own tickets and travel. The group meets in Hassocks, not in London. The return is from the same station, Hassocks.
Your train leaves London Blackfriars at 8.29 ( www.thetrainline.com)
To make sure you get there in time please check for any disruptions on the underground service at
https://tfl.gov.uk/tube-dlr-overground/status/
Your train arrives at Hassocks at 9.31.
The walk is about 20km at leisurely pace. There is only one climb at the beginning of the walk otherwise you can expect some long but not too demanding gradual slope along the way. It does require a general fitness level and comfy shoes! It is a long walk, NOT for absolute beginners.
Please also bring enough water (min 1l-2l) and snacks/food with you.
Always bring waterproofs with you.
I am very much looking forward meeting you and show you this lovely side of Sussex!
