Securing Big Data and how Big Data secures IT.

We have two talks, on two areas where Big Data and Information Security intersect.

Unauthorised access or dissemination is a headline concern whenever large collections of data are discussed. There has been considerable engineering investment in security components in the Hadoop ecosystem to address these concerns. Alastair Turner will walk us through the journey that Apache HAWQ (incubating) took to integrate with these security components and approaches.

IT infrastructure and applications also produce a lot of data about activity. Applying machine learning to this event data can provide a valuable additional tool in defending against attackers. Costas Antzakas will give us a overview of a few projects where Pivotal has used machine learning approaches to address information security concerns.
