London DevOps #90 - AWS

Details

We will be returning in April for a meetup hosted by Amazon at the AWS UK Corporate office.

6:00pm - Arrival

6:45pm - Introductions

7:00pm - The Talks

Talk 1. Agents Old and New - Abdullah Ariff

An amble through history and the concept of an “agent”, leading up to the current hype around “agentic AI”. They say history is the best predictor of the future. They say whoever fails to learn the history is doomed to repeat it. Here be some history.

We’ll also explore some of the more gritty problems around agents, in particular sysadmin and DevOps related issues, this being a DevOps meetup after all.

Abdullah Ariff is an AI, data, and cloud consultant with over 10 years of experience building intelligent systems across diverse sectors, having led the development of AI-driven genomic tools for cancer diagnosis, built dynamic green energy billing a major energy company, and automated supply chains at an e-commerce startup, MADE.com, contributing to its growth toward a $1bn IPO in 2021. Today, Abdullah specialises in architecting agent-based AI solutions, decision intelligence platforms, and scalable cloud infrastructure. As a mentor and (occasional) speaker, he enjoys distilling complex topics into simple ideas accessible to any audience. He’s a big fan of physics, a voracious reader, and loves having a good chat.

Talk 2. Step On It! Rapid Event-Based AWS Cost Control With Step Functions - Damien Jones

Managing cloud costs effectively is more than just cutting down on expenses; it's about creating smart, adaptable systems that respond to events as they happen. In this talk we'll examine how event-based architectures can transform the way we monitor, manage and optimise cloud spending, with a spotlight on AWS services like Step Functions, CloudTrail, and EventBridge.

Damien Jones is an AWS consultant, experienced data professional and cloud enthusiast with a strong track record of designing, building, and optimising cloud-native solutions. He brings deep expertise in SQL, cloud architectures, and data modelling, and has a passion for leveraging emerging technologies to solve complex problems and support data-driven decision-making.
