Little Symphonic Duet: classical music in a way you've never heard it before!

Details

The last in the Tuned In London series in a little while: Little Symphonic Duet are an astonishing duo capable of performing symphonies with nothing more than a charango, a small, traditional stringed instrument from the Andes, and a guitar. Led by Italy-based, highly accomplished Chilean musician Michel Barros Bessone, who has developed uñeta - a way of plucking that produces the higher notes in an orchestra – this duo will dazzle us with Michel’s incredible arrangements of works by Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, Rossini and more. Expect one or two traditional, folkloric tunes thrown in, and a special guest!

These are some of the pieces they have in mind to perform (never set in stone!):

  • Overture "The Thieving Magpie" G.Rossini
  • Swan Lake (act 2 n. 10) P.I.Tchaikovsky
  • Allegro non molto "l'inverno" op.8 n. 4 A.Vivaldi
  • Eine Kleine Nacht Musik W.A.Mozart
  • Rondò alla turca W.A.Mozart
  • Czardas V.Monti
  • Alla Hornpipe G.F.Händel
  • Preludio BWV 1006 J.S.Bach
  • Fuga BWV 1001 J.S.Bach
  • Tarantella Traditional
  • Overture (finale) "William Tell"
  • Allegro con Brio op. 67 "Symphony n. 5" L.V.Beethoven

The charango is a traditional Andean string instrument originally built from the shell of an armadillo, using it as a resonant box. With time the charango became an important instrument of South American music, and the most emblematic instruments of the Andean folk tradition.
