Dreaming Spires & River Meadows of Oxford - Urban & Country Hike

An opportunity to visit Oxford and explore some of the streams and river meadows of the city and learn a little about the history.

There is the option of one of two walks, a decision will be made nearer the date, the longer river walk if the weather is good.

Walk length 7miles/11km approx. (Short urban/country hike from Christ Church Meadow to Fiddler's Island).

Walk length 3.5 miles/6km approx (Short urban walk exploring some city sights from Oxford Castle to the Bridge of Sighs.

Lunch and Finish

Please bring water/pack lunch, the walk should finish about 4.30pm however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (we have a relaxed pace which includes sightseeing and photography).

Cost

Train from London £25.60 return, but discounted with a group save or network rail card to approx £18.

£5 (Guided walk & meetup costs, the host is a qualified guide).

Meeting

Meet outside Oxford Train Station from 10.30am for the walk to start at 10:45am (after the train from London arrives).

Car: Car parking is suggested at the number of park and rides close to the city (please leave enough time to park and check for restrictions).

Train from London: The 9.35am train from London Marylebone gets to Oxford for 10.42am. See National Rail (http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/default.aspx)

I would suggest meeting at 9.00am to give you time to get tickets, groups saves. I would encourage you to seek other members who take advantage of a group save on the train. Meet next to the WHSmith at Marylebone (see photo below).

Walking Safety

Walking is a great way to keep fit and generally very safe; however it does contain an element of risk. Before going on any of these walks you need to be reasonably fit and be prepared to be responsible for your own safety. You must wear appropriate clothing such as proper walking boots (not trainers), warm and wet weather clothing and carry sufficient food and water.
