The prospects for Universal Basic Income, with Scott Santens

Details
Scott Santens has been researching and advocating for the concept of unconditional universal basic income (or UBI) since 2013.
Scott describes UBI as follows: "Basic income is society investing in itself with a form of social security that’s unconditional, universal, periodic, cash for each and every individual member of society. What makes UBI so different than other forms of social security is that it’s built on a foundation of trust. UBI doesn’t care if you’re employed or not. UBI doesn’t care if you’re poor or not. UBI only cares that you are human, and you are alive. Because you are alive, you need sufficient access to resources to stay alive, no questions asked."
Scott's thoughtful advocacy of UBI was one of the factors acknowledged by former U.S. Presidential candidate Andrew Yang as having shaped his thinking. Nowadays, UBI is discussed much more frequently and more widely than, say, ten years ago.
But how have the prospects for UBI been changed by the various turbulent events of the last few years?
Scott joins London Futurists in this webinar to provide an update of his thinking in 2023, and to share his vision for future developments.

Scott Santens has lived with a basic income floor via Patreon since 2016 which has enabled him to focus full-time on popularizing the concept ever since.
He is currently the Senior Advisor for Humanity Forward and also serves on the board of directors of the Gerald Huff Fund for Humanity and as the editor of Basic Income Today — a daily UBI news hub.
His debut book about UBI and how to pay for it is titled Let There Be Money. You can buy it on Amazon or listen to it on your favorite podcast platform. (Spoiler alert: Scott has a lot to say about MMT: Modern Monetary Theory, and how to boost productive activity without triggering runaway inflation.)
If you're new to UBI, his UBI FAQ or his evidence thread on Twitter are good places to start.
