The Back Story
Last year I ran 3 sessions of this one-day course and attendees found it hugely valuable! (9.1/10 likely to recommend). But a full workshop is kind of a pain, so I’m doing this last one via Live Zoom Webinar. I'm breaking it into three intensive two-hour sessions with a bit of ‘homework’ (and live chat) in-between, so we can apply the lessons and learn as we go.
Why Psychology & Behavioral Economics?
When I looked back, most of the best startup “quick wins” came from deeply understanding user psychology. That includes the obvious “hacks” (referrals, pricing, social network stuff) plus traditional “brand” activities like quickly earning trust, positioning and comprehension. These companies were able to double, triple, even 10X their impact with simple changes (little budget and almost no development resources.
Each session runs from 10:00 - 12 noon GMT
- Part 1: Tues Jan 28 Intro, Growth Process, Attention, Awareness, "Free" Traffic.
- Part 2: Tues Feb 4 Trust, Urgency / Motivation, Price, Rapid Experimentation
- Part 3: Tues Feb 11 Activation, Retention, Referrals, more experimentation
Course Content & Format
Just like the in-person seminars, we’ll focus on practical (proven) examples of how psychology impacts each stage of the customer journey:
- Earn trust faster without expensive “brand” spending
- Boost conversion by increasing motivation & perceived urgency
- Use anchoring to increase the perception of value and defend your price
- Leverage “free” to drive growth without giving away all the value
- Build trigger loops to make your products habits to flatten those retention curves
- Driving referrals via network effects
After a brief review of the theory, each section has a rapid-fire set of winning examples from across the startup universe. Then you’ll get a set of simple, lightweight exercises to apply to your business right away. You will literally end the session with 5 – 20 low-cost ideas you can implement immediately. Those wins will help you get people’s attention and the resources you need to scale up (aka, will make your job fun).
