Thames Path Walk: Reading to Henley [or Shiplake] 🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️

Join us for a sociable 10-mile [or 8-mile] walk starting in Reading and finishing at Henley [or Shiplake], mainly walking along an attractive riverside stretch of the Thames Path.

Meet Thomas (the man wearing the brown hat in the photo) or Mark (who will be wearing an orange scarf) inside Paddington mainline train station in front of the ticket office at 9.45am. We will be catching the 10:17am Elizabeth line train, arriving at Reading at 11:10am. If you wish to meet us at Reading station instead then please let us know.

Make sure you arrive with enough time to buy your travel ticket. Check the best ticket option when you join the group (or at the station ticket office). A return ticket from London (or West Drayton) to Reading should be permissible if you inform the ticket office that you are walking to Shiplake or Henley and returning from there (cheaper than two single tickets). Freedom Pass holders should get free travel to Reading but only via the Elizabeth line. 60+ Oystercard passholders or those with zones 1-6 travelcards should get free travel between London and West Drayton (in zone 6). Those with Network cards or groups of 3 or 4 who are happy to travel back together should be able to get a third discount. An off-peak day return from Paddington to Reading costs £27.20, but £18 with a third discount ; an off-peak day return from West Drayton to Reading is £16.10.

Unfortunately we cannot wait for latecomers as it is unfair on others to delay the walk [if you miss the 10:17am Elizabeth line service it might still be possible to join us by catching a fast Great Western Trains service at 10:22am or 10:45am and join us in Reading]

There will be a lunch stop at an appropriate eatery (if you prefer you can bring your own food but may need to eat this separately - it is always a good idea to carry a snack and some water).

The walk should involve about 4 hours of walking time (or 3 hours for the shorter version ending at Shiplake). Allowing for a lunchbreak and travel time you should arrive back in London by about 6pm.
