Camden Lock was one of London’s first crafts/antiques markets and today is one of the world’s most famous markets for crafts. The iconic retail destination started as craft workshops by Regent’s Canal and evolved to become one of London’s most important centres of artisan creativity and trading. The Market is packed with stalls trading in handmade clothes, jewellery, music, gifts, souvenirs, objects from ages past and authentic food from far flung locations.
The Camden markets are adjoining markets in Camden Town, the 4th-most popular visitor attraction in London, attracting 250,000 people each wk.
The markets:
Camden Lock Market was originally a craft market and whilst the range of goods has widened, with stalls selling books, new and 2nd-hand clothing and jewellery, it is still the main Camden market for crafts. There is a large selection of fastfood stalls and a 3-storey indoor market.
The Stables Market, in the historic former stables and Grade II listed horse hospital, consists of many stalls/shops set in large arches in railway viaducts. The market has many clothes stalls; it is the main focus for furniture; and has decorative, ethnically-influenced items, 2nd-hand items and 20th-century antiques.
Buck Street Market is an outdoor market focusing on clothes, with many stallholders designing their own wares.
The Electric Ballroom, a nightclub since 1950s, opens during the day at wkends as an indoor market. The market attracts independent designers/dealers specialising in unique, unusual items inc. clothing and vintage vinyl records.
