The Temple of The Golden Pavilion By Yukio Mishima - Discussion

I hope you are having a nice summer. Here's an event planned for after we've all come back from our holidays. As requested by some members, FINALLY we will discuss The Temple of The Golden Pavilion by world-renowned and controversial writer Yukio Mishima. Inspired by the actual arson of the Temple of the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto in 1950, the novel is considered complex and somewhat incomprehensible, as it reveals Mishima's inner struggle or obsession with beauty and destruction.

The event is over a month away, so I hope you will have time to read the book. I wish I could get hold of the original, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to (if you have a copy, please let me know) - his writing in Japanese is so poetic and beautiful. Some chapters in Japanese are available online - I will share them in time.

As usual, we'll have discussions in small groups as we have a leisurely walk along the Parkland Walk, starting from Alexandra Palace all the way to Finsbury Park (4.8 miles), weather permitting. You can join us at Highgate if you wish.

At the end of the walk, those who wish to can join me at Tenmaru, one of the few authentic ramen bars near Finsbury Park station (a Japanese member new to London has informed me of it, so it must be good✌️). They can only take a group of 8 together, but they don't take bookings - let's see how many of you want to stay behind. And this is optional!
