🎤 Our November Talks

Emma Britnor - Levelling up by teaching others.

As a Community, we are constantly advocating for others to learn to code. But how can we empower and encourage more folks to get involved in teaching their peers, both at work and in the community? The return on your efforts can be a substantial factor in accelerating your own career progress. And on top of that, there's no better feeling than seeing those you're taught develop and their skills flourish because of the time you've invested in helping them. Join me as I discuss the incredible highs of teaching others, and how we can create collaborative, inclusive spaces for growth for both the students and instructors alike.

Emma Britnor is a senior software engineer with a development career spanning Twitter, Code First Girls, Starling Bank and Mixd. Emma recently googled 'what is web3?' and came 1st in the Athena Hack by ShowCode.

Akash Kumar - How Block Element and Modifier Accelerates CSS and Website Development.

It's a known fact the right style guide can significantly increase development speed, debugging, and the implementation of new features. Sadly, most CSS codebases are developed without any structure or naming conventions.

The BEM approach ensures that everyone who participates in the development of a website works with a single codebase and speaks the same language.

Akash Kumar is a frontend developer with over five years of frontend development experience. Akash can be followed on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/acodeakash/

Samuel Larsen-Disney - The Hackathon Survival Guide - Make Your Hack Stand Out From The Crowd.

Hey, I'm Sam. A hackathon enthusiast and full-time software engineer. I have attended over 50+ hackathons as an attendee, mentor or sponsor and won over £70,000 in 2021.

How do I keep winning? I'm not a wizard. I am not any smarter than you. The secret is the right combination of tools to set you up for success. In my talk I'll share a mixture of experiences, projects and (hopefully) some pearls of wisdom from 50+ hackathons!

Samuel Larsen-Disney is a Senior Engineer. He enjoys teaching the next generation to code through his books, articles, presentations and at hackathons. Find Sam at https://sld.codes/

Sanjay Patel - App to Full Stack Developer.

See how you can transfer your skills from becoming an App developer to a full stack developer by learning about CDK to deploy your supporting AWS Cloud infrastructure! ☁️

Sanjay is an experienced PwC software architect and has worked on various projects throughout his career with experience working with AWS and Azure to create micro-services as a software engineer.
