Alex is a Rails full stack developer with extensive knowledge of Javascript and the frontend. He loves working with data and automated data mining. In a previous life, Alex was a professional DJ, boasting a 6 year residency in the infamous Pacha Madrid.

Janine Luk - Solutions Engineer at R3 & Code First Girls Ambassador - From Yacht Marketing to Enterprise Blockchain: Harnessing Technology's New Wave

Janine will be tracing her transition from yacht marketing to software engineering in enterprise blockchain. As she uncovers the catalyst that sparked her curiosity towards coding, she will also share how she overcame challenges along the way. Hear about the lessons, growth, and transferable skills acquired from her journey, to ignite your own career transformation.

Janine is a Solutions Engineer at R3 based in London, UK. She is a full-stack engineer with experience in Java, Kotlin, JavaScript (React/Redux), and Ruby.

Originally from Hong Kong, she has lived abroad since the age of 11 in Northern Ireland, Canada, and France. As an ambassador and confidence coach at Code First Girls, she actively advocates for underrepresented individuals in STEM. Coding, languages, music, and dance are her main passions.

Testing UIs, and web front-end especially, is notoriously difficult, slow and unreliable, but it doesn’t have to be. In this talk I will explore some of the reasons why we end up in the place we so often do, and design approaches and tools that can help us get more confidence in our apps and more productivity.

Viktor helps clients turn their digital product and service ambitions into reality. In his previous career, Viktor spent 15 years as a software engineer and tech lead, driving technical innovation and engineering best practices in companies across retail, publishing and finance.

Paul Hammond - Full Stack Developer at NewDay

TDD and React: A hands-on demonstration. This hands-on session will show what the workflow for test driving a React component looks like. We will see how we can use our tests to drive our design and how fast feedback from our tests can help us to spot and fix bugs very quickly. We will also see a practical demonstration of a refactoring, where we change the internals of our component and the feedback from our tests is useful and doesn't get in our way.

Paul is a full stack web developer with experience with React, GraphQL, Node and Typescript based in Manchester, UK. He’s been working in the industry for 15 years and has been doing TDD daily for the past 10 years and has successfully delivered many large projects at scale using TDD in all of these places.

Outside of work he loves Indian food and could eat it every day of the week if his partner would let him. Which she won’t.
