MEET: Starbuck's, Liverpool Street station, bottom of the Bishopsgate escalator. 10.45 for tea or 11.15 for the start of the walk.

The Great Fire of 1666 destroyed much of the City of London, but as it started near London Bridge and blew westwards so much of the area north of this was saved.

We'll take in some of the nine medieval churches still with us and saved from the conflagration, the remains of the 12th century priory, discuss the first of the great scientists of the Enlightenment, see why Pepys was scared to go to church and the real Mother Goose.

Death makes an appearance too in the form of the poisonous well and the most inefficient of executioners and our own Typhoid Mary. An unusual feature too, a genuine square.

All of the city's tallest buildings are grouped here, we'll discuss why and note their whacky nicknames and their unique features. We'll have some bank holiday fun by voting for our favourite at the end of the walk.

Meet at 10.45 in Liverpool Street station at the Starbucks at the bottom of the Bishopsgate escalator at 10.45 or for the walk start at Platform 16 at 11.15. We finish back here two hours later.

The cost of the walk is £12, please pay by cash on the day, or bank transfer to sort code 09-01-28 account 75471878.

My number is 07815009191.

If you see unpaid by your name just ignore it.
