London's Hidden Rivers: A walk down the Fleet with Tim

Details

Join Tim in a discovery of the lost River Fleet. The Fleet rises in the ponds of Hampstead and Highgate but we will join it as it flows through the city from Kings Cross to the Thames. We'll be walking in the footsteps of monks, martyrs and marxists; princes and prisoners in a 1000 years and more of history.

Once it defined the boundaries of Roman London. In medieval times its banks were lined with monasteries, palaces, pleasure gardens and prisons. Later it became an open sewer and was hidden from sight. It still flows though beneath London's streets and we will catch a rare glimpse of it on our walk. We'll trace its course as it meandered through London and see ghostly reminders of where it once flowed.
We meet inside Kings Cross Station in the Costa Cafe on the mezzanine overlooking the concourse at 10.45 for an 11.00 am start. I'll be there waving a guidebook around!
We will then walk down the valley of the Fleet tracing its role in London's history to where it meets the Thames in time for a lateish lunch in an iconic pub near Blackfriars tube and mainline stations.
