From the arrival of the Normans in 1066 through to the Great Fire some 600 years later, first the guilds and then the livery companies controlled the economy of the city of London and by implication of the whole country.

On this walk we'll visit some very old halls and some newer ones; we'll look at some of the better known companies and some of the more obscure: the loriners and the pattenmakers for example; we'll note the reasons for their geographical siting and consider some of the great characters and stories associated with them.
