A chance to visit deepest south London.
MEET: 10.45 Starbucks right opposite Wimbledon station for tea/coffee or 11.15 just outside Starbuck's
for the start of the walk.
The centuries old St Mary's church (photo above) has some surprising tombs and monuments and then we descend through what was once the Churchill's estate laid out by Capability Brown. There's the shop who bribed the tram conductors to call out its name, find out how; the fountain remembering the man who tried to cure tinitus and died as a consequence, a comeback for Sheik Yamani and the London home of a 19th century deposed Indian prince doomed to long (in vain) for a return home, the unfortunate Cannizaros and croquet at Wimbledon.
Finally, find out how the locals coped with Henry VIII's visit.
The cost of the walk is £12 per head. Please pay this either by cash on the day or to my account sort code 090128 account number 75471878.
