Title: Challenges and Applications of Large Language Models
Speakers: Jean Kaddour and Joshua Harris
Paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2307.10169
Abstract: Large Language Models (LLMs) went from non-existent to ubiquitous in the machine learning discourse within a few years. Due to the fast pace of the field, it is difficult to identify the remaining challenges and already fruitful application areas. In this paper, we aim to establish a systematic set of open problems and application successes so that ML researchers can comprehend the field's current state more quickly and become productive.

Speaker bios:

Jean Kaddour: I am a PhD student at University College London, currently interested in language models. During my PhD, I interned at Reka AI. Previously, I studied computer science and worked as a data scientist.
Joshua Harris: I currently work as an Applied AI Researcher for the U.K. Health Security Agency (UKHSA). My primary focus is evaluating and deploying large language models for applications in public health. Prior to joining UKHSA, I earned an MSc. in Computer Science from Imperial College London and an undergraduate degree in Economics, I was also an Associate in Research at Morgan Stanley.
