What we’re about

Join us for a sharp, darkly comic, and deeply spiritual solo performance that brings to life the almost-forgotten story of the Guglielmites — a 13th-century women-led movement that dared to place the feminine at the centre of sacred power.
Led by visionary Guglielma of Milan and her chosen successor, Popess Maifreda da Piovano, their community defied the authority of the Church and was condemned as heresy. This powerful piece also connects to the archetype of La Papessa (The Popess) from the Visconti-Sforza Tarot deck, later known as the High Priestess — embodying hidden wisdom, feminine spirituality, and the courage to challenge established truths.
Through storytelling, wit, and physical theatre, The Popess explores faith, freedom, and rebellion against patriarchy — inviting audiences to reimagine power, gender, and the sacred.
