Why Beyond the Playlist?
We live in an age of playlists, recommendations and endless choice. That’s wonderful—we’ve never had so much music at our fingertips.
But somewhere along the way, many of us stopped listening to albums.
An album isn’t just a collection of songs. It’s a snapshot of an artist’s life, a creative statement, and often a journey that unfolds from the first track to the last.
Each month we explore a different musical genre, era or movement. We curate three iconic artists and one landmark album from each, and listen to all three albums from beginning to end before we meet. For those who want to dig deeper, a selection of additional albums, documentaries, interviews, articles and live performances offers the opportunity to explore the genre more deeply.
The goal isn’t simply to listen to great music. It’s to discover music you might never have thought to listen to, rediscover music you thought you already knew, and hear something that surprises or moves you.
Once a month we come together to share what we heard, what stayed with us, and what surprised us. We hear how others experienced the same music, exchange perspectives, and perhaps come away hearing something differently than we did before.
And along the way, we expand our musical world—and connect with each other—three remarkable albums at a time.
