LOPUG 11th Birthday Party Meetup, Wednesday 19th July, 6.30pm onwards
Details
We are celebrating LoPUG's 11th birthday (the first ever LoPUG meetup was held in May 2012!!) and we're back at where it all began, in the OpenCredo office.
We have two fantastic speakers lined up, the agenda is:
- 6:30pm - arrive, drinks, food, networking
- 7:00pm - Talk 1: "Curating a Platform Experience"
Andy is part of the Kubernetes platform squad at Flutter UK and Ireland, since its' inception in 2016 the platform has been widely adopted across the business. In 2019 Andy was asked to head up a newly formed Platform Customer Experience team to help with some of the growing pains of a successful product, increasing adoption of the platform and helping development teams go fast by reducing time to market and operational complexity.
This talk explains what the customer experience team did, starting from scratch Andy will share the journey that today sees the team receive glowing feedback and recommendations from across the business. Andy will share the practical things that were done, what worked (and what didn't) and how the focus of the team has evolved over the past four years and what's next.
Speaker: Andy Burgin, Principal Platform Engineer, Flutter UK & Ireland
Andy considers himself a Kubernetes and DevRel fettler, spending far too much of his spare time making Raspberry Pis do things they shouldn’t. He is a small part of the organising team for DevOpsDays London and has been running the DevOps meetup in Leeds for 8 years hosting over 40 events.
- 7.30pm - more drinks & networking
- 7.45pm - Talk 2: "Failure, heal thyself? Creating a culture of digital immunity"
Complexity is the biggest threat facing tech teams. It makes our digital ecosystems brittle, hard to work with and prone to failure.
Challenged by this ever-increasing complexity, SRE teams are pushing reliability higher and higher up the agenda for platform teams and tech strategists. And they're looking for innovative ways to overcome frequent outages, slow recovery times and increasing cognitive load.
A 'Digital Immunity' approach can reduce downtime by 80% (Gartner). But what is Digital Immunity? Is it even achievable? And how does it align with reliability and platform initiatives? Let's explore that in this talk!
Speaker: Charlotte Binstead, Product Marketing Manager, Cloudsoft
Charlotte is Head of Growth Marketing at Cloudsoft, where she spends most of her time thinking about reliability, automation and making fun stuff in Canva. She is also the organiser of the SRE MeetUp in Edinburgh. She brings an infectiously enthusiastic outsider's view of tech, and seeks to understand the cultural and social impact of technology on its adopters.
- 8.15pm onwards - drinks, networking, maybe some birthday cake!
So, please come and join us, we look forward to seeing you there.
The LOPUG team.
- Food and drinks provided
