About us

The London RegTech Meetup is a small, friendly get-together for anyone working in, or curious about, the space where financial regulation meets real-world technology. We keep it deliberately small — just 10 people — so conversations stay genuine and everyone gets a chance to contribute.

Joanna brings a background in financial law and regulation, and Florin comes from the tech and architecture side. We kick things off with a short intro on a topic they've found genuinely interesting or relevant lately — then it's over to the group. No hard sell, just an honest discussion with people who have a background in the subject.

We meet fortnightly at a local café near Deptford Bridge, and each session has one focused topic to keep things from going off the rails entirely (though a little digression is always welcome).
We ask for a £5 donation per session to help keep things ticking over, and places are capped at 10 — so it's worth grabbing a spot early if you're keen.

If you work in fintech, regtech, compliance, or just find yourself wondering about financial products like crypto and what is being done to mitigate the well-publicized risks, you'll probably fit right in. Come say hello.

We believe the best conversations happen over good coffee. Join us.

Who's Writing the AI Rules—And Does It Matter?

Who's Writing the AI Rules—And Does It Matter?

1, Deals Gateway, Deptford, London, GB

AI is changing everything — how we work, how decisions get made, and who's held accountable when things go wrong. But who's actually writing the rules?

The EU has already moved fast with its landmark AI Act. The UK is taking a different path — more flexible, more "wait and see". And the US? Well, the White House has just dropped a new legislative framework that's already drawing fire for its lack of rigour.

Join our small RegTech Meetup (max 10 attendees) for a closer look at what these three very different approaches mean in practice — for tech providers, for consumers and for commercial businesses trying to stay on top of the risks and opportunities.

Whether you're a tech founder navigating compliance, a professional wondering how AI affects your industry, or simply someone who wants to understand the world today's kids are growing up in — this session is for you.

We'll cover:

  • What the EU AI Act actually says (and what it means)
  • Why the UK chose a different road
  • What's happening in the US — and why it matters globally
  • Where these paths might converge, clash, or leave dangerous gaps.

Come ready to ask questions, share your perspective, and help shape what we explore next.

Notes:
