Angelo Mastroberardino, Parkopedia - Lanelets2: Maps for Autoware
Parkopedia is developing an autonomous driving vehicle for Automated Valet Parking (AVP) to demonstrate navigation and localisation with our parking maps, which is required particularly in GNSS-denied environments such as covered car parks. We believe that infrastructure-light solutions where the intelligence for localisation, motion planning and control, perception and safety modules is in the vehicle is required for scalability in deploying AVP. Lanelets2 is a high-definition map framework for the future of automated driving. We show preliminary work using OpenStreetMap XML maps of car parks constructed for this purpose with Lanelets2 in Autoware to enable Autonomous Valet Parking. -
Brian Holt, Parkopedia - Customer Experience of AVP
Connected Places Catapult (CPC), members of the AVP Consortium, have conducted research with UK car drivers and stakeholders to better understand public and industry readiness for autonomous valet parking (AVP).
The key questions guiding the research were:
- What are the key parking pain points that can be resolved by AVP?
- What are other likely benefits of AVP to users and parking stakeholders?
- What are the key barriers to AVP deployment and uptake, from a social and behavioural point of view?
- What will be the likely impact of AVP, on the environment, the economy, and the parking industry?
The report produced details the findings, conclusions and recommendations from a suite of research activities.
