Details
Well, this looks to be an absolutely unique event!!! It's a must-see event on view for one week only - featuring highlights from the commemorative coin and medal collection of the Shanghai Mint to be displayed at The Royal Mint.
COINect: Chinese Culture and Creativity
They say: From the Great Wall of China and the Terracotta Warriors to the Zodiac animals and Olympic medals, this is your chance to view over 100 sets of coins and medals from the Shanghai Mint—exhibited for the first time outside of China. Each coin is a miniature work of art, reflecting China’s rich history, innovation, and global cultural connections.
Visitors can enjoy interactive displays, including a digital ‘wish pool,’ DIY zodiac coin design, Chinese character learning from coins, and public voting for the Our Water – UK-China Youth Coin Design Competition.
Orgniased by USC-SJTU Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry (ICCI) with support from Brunel Design School and Shanghai Mint Museum, The Information Office of Putuo District, Shanghai, and Shanghai Putuo District Administration of Culture and Tourism, COINect is part of Our Water, a cultural exchange programme that explores the relationship between water and urban life in Shanghai and other global cities.
The exhibition is part of Our Water, a cultural exchange programme that explores the relationship between water and urban life in Shanghai and other global cities. Following its launch in Paris during the 2024 Summer Olympics, this year’s edition turns its focus to the cultural ties between London and Shanghai, highlighting the shared heritage between London’s old Royal Mint and its Shanghai counterpart -two historic sites situated along significant waterways: the River Thames in London and Suzhou Creek in Shanghai. Once a vital artery for trade and shipping, Suzhou Creek has evolved into a cultural corridor lined with institutions and historical landmarks such as the M50 Creative Park.
Don’t miss this unique cultural journey!!!
NB. It is rumoured that The Royal Mint is to become the new Chinese Embassy...
After the visit, we'll then have a walkabout the fittingly watery 🛥️🛶🚤
St. Katherine Dock, then wander off to the local 'Spoons' Liberty Bounds for an Eat's 'n' Drinks Social.

So, in the first instance RSVP as normal, I will then individually message you to confirm details - only after I have the required information will your place be guaranteed. You will also, need to bring along photo ID on the day.
It's really important to keep your RSVP up to date and in good time, no late (on the day) cancellations. Any No Shows will be removed from the group.
I will meet you outside the main tube exit of Tower Hill Tube Station.
The Meetup fee for this event is £3.00 – which is payable on the day.
Please keep an eye out for the Meetup sign. If you do not see us please call/text me on: 0739 623 3874 – text is best! - psssst! Don't forget to say your name in the message.
