Hands-on Session: TDD for handling change of requirements

In this session we're giving a list of requirements that will be changed/extended during the session. Pairs are encouraged to practice how TDD helps handling requirements change. As usual, the exercise is arranged in 2 pomodoros with a short break in between and a discussion at the end of the session.

Please come with your favourite language and development environment setup for Test Driven Development.

For someone that hasn't got experience on TDD was a bit overwhelming. Also I was expecting some kind of introduction to TDD. To help us get started, maybe a simple codebase with the model of the problem would be beneficial.
But overall, was a good experience!!

Hi Rui, thanks for your feedback. Usually people coming to session are always at different levels - and a session that'd be focused on the basics of TDD may be interesting to those who are not experienced. We'll definitely think of playing a beginners session in the future.

I'd be happy to help organise a beginners TDD / BDD session if there is interest!

Thanks to everybody who attended the session yesterday and for all the feedback. I put the slides online at http://blog.manub.net/2013/05/london-software-craftsmanship-community-may-hands-on-session/

Looking forward to the next session!

An interesting and well-run session. We struggled a bit because some of the requirements were confusingly-worded, but perhaps this was part of the exercise?

No it wasn't intentional, and we actually strived to make the requirements as clear as possible beforehand. Perhaps some verbal context before the first pomodoro would have helped. Who would be a BA, eh?

Sorry for pulling out late - too busy at work tonight to make it :-(

What time is this due to finish (aprox)?

    Hi guys,

just a reminder as we'll try to start the session at 6.30pm sharp. Please make sure you have your laptop with your preferred IDE set-up and that you've created an empty project with your preferred language in order to be ready to dig into the session straight away!

Looking forward to seeing you there tomorrow.

I think that for Java, JUnit (or TestNG) and a mocking framework like Mockito (or any other you'd prefer) will be enough.

Really sorry to have to miss this one guys, totally forgot I'm at a gig tonight.
Will look forward to hearing how it goes. See you all at coffee and code next month.

    Hey Ataul,

I think the session will be useful for both beginners and experienced practitioners alike. If you're new to TDD, it might be beneficial pairing up with someone who has more experience, but that's entirely up to you.
