Micro-composition in Street Photography
Details
How often do we take a photograph and realise that a pole is sticking out behind the head of the main subject? How many Street Photographs do we see where the subjects are against a messy, confusing background?
This happens because although we are composing the image, we fail to micro-compose it.
But what is micro-composition? Nope, it has nothing to do with macro photography! Well, you can micro-compose there as well…
Micro-composition is taking control of the precise positioning of the elements, subjects and background in an image to create a visually compelling experience and clear points of interest for the eye to go to.
Micro-composition will take your images to the next level, making your subject pop and allowing the background and secondary elements in the picture to support the main subject. Your images will be easier to read and spark more interest for the viewer.
In this workshop we will have an initial briefing explaining the main principles of micro-composition and how to do it well and quickly. In Street Photography the pace is often quite fast, we need to have a clear idea about how to do it and do it before the scene has gone. You will understand how to make this a priority in your photography and you will see the results straight away.
After the briefing we will venture on the streets and practice the principles and techniques to come home with a few images that are well micro-composed and a way to practice this in your own time.
Join us in an intensive learning experience and a welcoming and fun group of fellow photographers. You will enjoy the day and come home with a stronger photographic skill. And a few laughs…
After the workshop it would be great to share two or three shots from the day on the Facebook group Shoot The Street:

The community is already formed by passionate Street Photographers and will welcome you and your images, and we will be looking forward to seeing the results of your efforts.
Have you read this far? Wow, well done! You’re committed already!
