Walk Distance: 2.2 miles
Walk Finish: Near Putney Bridge Station (District). Plus Wetherspoon Rocket on Thames. See photo.

Just across the Hammersmith bridge is a classy riverside settlement known as Barnes. This was the place of the barn or barns that stored grain for the manor of Mortlake, and the first authenticated appearance of its name was in Domesday Book.

Barnes is closely identified with the Arts, but sport is also an integral part of its heritage. As well as being a vantage point for the Boat Race, the village was the cradle of British football.
