How to build a [Django|Flask] & AngularJS data product

Hi Pythonistas!

Will kick off this year (bit late ...) with a 8 week program of building a data app. Empiric (http://www.empiric.com)is very kind to host us in its swanky new offices with free drinks and food provided.

Description

In this 8 weeks session we will be building from scratch a basic news analytics & filtering data product. At the end of the series you can call yourself a data science ninjutsu. Before we hit the ground running lets take a second and explore the motivation behind this project and what will be in it for you.

If you are interested to use data for your yet to be build start-up, or to help your organization move forward, the keyword in data science is science, i.e. understand and test hypothesis through experimentation.

The workshop will cover the following topics:

• build the next generation user-driven intelligent applications

• setting up a Django / Flask project in the cloud

• scaffolding an Angular 1.5 application & creating a simple web interface with templates

• setting up web-crawlers to retrieve information we need classified and categorized

• persistence in MongoDB or PostgreSQL

• machine learn the app with scikit-learn, natural language processing

• collecting user feedback for re-training model prediction accuracy and most-likely news to click

Pre-requisites:

Basic python & HTML CSS and JavaScript knowledge. A full session will be dedicated on how to setup and work with AngularJS

Good math skills for understanding the ML algorithms used.
