It is often said that we live in a ‘dark age’ when it comes to freedom. If this is the case then there must have been a previous time when people were more free.

The London Anarchists invite you to come and attend our lively discussion about whether our ancestors were in fact more ‘free’ then we are today.

If we decide that a previous era was indeed freer than we are today. Then this has massive implications for the shape of Libertarian/ Anarchist thinking today. This meet-up is perfect for Anarchists, Libertarians and history enthusiasts alike. I will deliver a short talk on the topic then open it up for wider discussion. I will be looking at:

The Classical World
The Medieval Period
Premodern Anarchy? -Iceland and Ireland.
The 18th/ 19th centuries.
The 20th Century.
