LondonCV - London's Computer Vision Meetup (27 November)

Details
Hi again!
Our November meetup is scheduled for Wednesday 27 November with another two great talks. Full info below. Please make sure to signup.

TALK 1: FROM 2D-BASED COMPUTER VISION TO 3D SENSED DATA IN INDOOR ENVIRONMENTS
Abstract: In this joint talk by Contilio, a 3D computer vision startup based in London and ETH Zurich, Prof. Konrad Schindler will firstly provide an overview of academic research related to deep learning and computer vision for indoor and outdoor settings. We will introduce the state-of-the-art with regards to visual recognition and object detection and how this is moving from image-based scene understanding and multiview geometry to 3D sense data such as point clouds. This will be followed by Contilio CEO Zara Riahi describing how Contilio is changing the way large construction projects are executed and how 3D computer vision and deep learning are fundamentally important to deliver customer value.
Bio: Zara Riahi, CEO & Co-Founder, Contilio
Zara is the CEO and co-founder of Contilio, a game-changing construction tech startup that uses 3D AI, BIM and big data to automatically turn construction site data into real-time and actionable insights on construction progress, installation quality and leading KPIs.
Prior to Contilio, Zara executed tech and infrastructure investments at UBS London and Westpac Australia and was lead engineer and project manager for mega construction projects in North America. She has advised various startup and corporate CEOs and boards on growth and operation strategies and was head of business development for a Silicon Valley fintech startup.

Bio Prof. Dr. Konrad Schindler, ETH Zürich
Konrad received the Diplomingenieur (M.Tech.) degree in photogrammetry from Vienna University of Technology, Vienna, Austria, in 1999, and the Ph.D. degree from Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria, in 2003.
He was a Photogrammetric Engineer in the private industry and held researcher positions at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, and at ETH Zürich, Switzerland. He was an Assistant Professor of Image Understanding with TU Darmstadt, Darmstadt, Germany, in 2009. Since 2010, he has been a Tenured Professor of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing in the Departement of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering of ETH Zürich.

TALK 2: A NEW WAY TO FLY
Abstract: In this talk by sees.ai CTO, we will present the technology we are developing that enables remote operation of drones from a central control room, facilitating the delivery of drone services at enterprise scale. sees.ai's solution combines highly-automated drones on the client site with human pilots working beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) in a central control room. The result is more consistent, more immediate and more efficient - and hence radically more scaleable - than current state-of-the-art (VLOS). This ‘augmented human’ approach is also the fastest route to full autonomy.
Bio: Eduardo Aldaz-Carroll: Previously, Manager Touch & Sensing Innovation Team at Apple Cupertino; 2x Winner of the America’s Cup with Oracle Racing (personally designed the mechatronic daggerboard control system that contributed to Oracle winning the Cup in 2013); Electronic & Controls Engineer at CERN (European Laboratory for Particle Physics). Eduardo has 15+ years experience in electronic system design and implementation, with in-depth knowledge of robotics, embedded systems, hardware and software design.
