The Louvre, Paris - French Highlights - Art History Livestream Hosted by Robert Kelleman

Bonjour!

For French Independence Day (Bastille Day - July 14), we invite you to join us for an online/virtual tour of the Louvre in Paris, France, considered by many to be the world's greatest art museum.

This will be a two-part art history program
Part 1 - Saturday, July 11 - French Highlights, with emphasis on works from 1643 (Louis XIV) through 1815 (Napoleon Bonaparte).

Part 2 - Saturday, July 18 - International (Non-French) Highlights, including Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.

During and after both programs you’ll have the opportunity to discuss the topics with your fellow art lovers via Zoom.

The Louvre, or the Louvre Museum (French: Musée du Louvre, is the world's second-largest art museum and a historic monument in Paris, France, and is best known for being the home of the Mona Lisa. A central landmark of the city, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the city's 1st arrondissement (district or ward). Approximately 38,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited over an area of 72,735 square meters (782,910 square feet). The Louvre topped the list of most-visited art museums in the world in 2020.
The Musée du Louvre contains more than 380,000 objects and displays 35,000 works of art in eight curatorial departments with more than 60,600 square metres (652,000 sq ft) dedicated to the permanent collection. The Louvre exhibits sculptures, objets d'art, paintings, drawings, and archaeological finds. It is the world's most visited museum, averaging 15,000 visitors per day, 65 percent of whom are foreign tourists.
