MWN UK Presents "Hear I Am" an evening of poetic narratives

Nazmin and I are involved in the Muslim Women's Network's latest campaign - the anthology project - which aims to compile a collection of poems and short stories addressing issues such as domestic violence, forced marriage, mental health, and economic equality. To raise funds for the project we are hosting an event Sat June 22nd, and would appreciate if you could come along for the evening. Further details of the event are below:

"Hear I Am"
an evening of poetic narratives

On 23rd April 2013, World Book & Copyright Day, Muslim Women’s Network UK launched its anthology project.

The aim of this project is to compile an anthology, a collection of poems and short stories, which will provide a voice to Muslim women and the wider community in a novel way and assist in tackling the very real and pertinent issues affecting us all such as domestic violence, forced marriage, mental health, and economic equality. At the same time it will allow us to provide a platform by which to recognise the talent of those within Muslim and/or BME communities. In turn we hope this contributes to our priority area of changing attitudes to women’s leadership.

As part of this project Muslim Women’s Network UK will be holding an event that provides a further opportunity to showcase the talent within the community.

“Hear I Am” will be a celebratory evening of poetic narratives and showcasing of art, including:

•Dinner
•Poetry readings
•Spoken word artists
•Screening of MWN-UK’s “One Billion Rising” campaign
•Henna
•Calligraphy
•Networking ...and more!
The evening will include an AUCTION of various pieces of art and calligraphy. There will also be the opportunity to buy Saleha Begum's latest book "Ruptures and Fragments" and hear from the author herself at the event --- so be prepared!

Tickets are £11.25 online (inclusive of online booking fees) or £15 at the door. Please join us and help promote the artistic talent of the Muslim & BME communities and help raise awareness of pertinent issues at the same time.
