🐦Wildlife at Walthamstow Wetlands 🐦
Details
Come and spend a half day enjoying wildlife at Walthamstow Reservoir, the biggest wetland in Europe.
THE EARLY BIRD CATCHES THE WORM!!
Walthamstow Reservoirs are a favoured location for kingfishers. The ten reservoirs that make up this 211 hectare site are nationally and internationally recognised as significant for wildlife.
Birds: Grey Herons and Little Egrets begin nesting in large colonies (heronries) as early as February. Sand Martins and Swifts return, while Great Crested Grebes perform their "weed dance" courtship.
Arrivals: Wheatear and other migrating birds arrive in March.
Species to Spot: Kingfishers, Grey Wagtails, and Cormorants are commonly seen.
Flora and Fauna: Frogs, orange-tip and peacock butterflies
