About us

Enjoy playing badminton and meeting new friends? Join us at the London Social Badminton Meet Up!

We are a friendly and fun group with people from all around the world. We love badminton, we love socialising, we love socialising while playing badminton - you get the idea. So come along - keep fit, meet other badminton players, and have fun!

We play several days a week, each session has 4 courts.

Our Monday/Thursday sessions uses Yonex Mavis 600 nylon shuttles and is open to all levels.
Our Wednesday sessions uses Kawasaki Kong 500 Hybrid feather shuttles and is open to Intermediate-Advanced levels.

Note: All sessions are held at Chobham Academy, E20 2EG - Stratford
Session Prices:

Monday/Thursday - 7-9pm (2 hrs) - £9
Wednesday - 7-10pm (3 hrs) - £12

We also run coaching sessions from time to time, if you are interested, please reach out to Islam on the Organiser List.
We have a Racket Stringer on staff. If you need stringing, please reach out to Kelvin on the Organiser List.

PAYMENT PROCESS - From FEBRUARY 2026

The first cut off period will be at Midnight the day of the session.
Between midnight till about 1am, anyone who has not paid at that point, will be removed from the going list and placed on the no list.
You will have an opportunity to rejoin the going list after you've been removed if the spots have not been filled by the waitlist (if there is a waitlist).
The final cut off period will be at 5pm on the day of the session.
Between 5pm-6pm, anyone who hasn't paid will get removed, no payment reminders will be sent.

It is encouraged that at the time of booking, you make payment. If you are unable to attend and cancel your spot before 24hrs of the session starting, we are happy to credit you the session or provide you with a refund.

Free Racket Over Grips
We provide free racket over grips to anyone that requires one at a session (subject to availability). If you are in need of one, please speak with an organiser at a session. Note: Over Grips sit on top of the existing grip. If you need to fully replace the existing grip, then these would not be suitable. You can however place these on top of the existing grip.
Free Racket Stringing per 30 sessions attended
If you have attended 30 sessions at the club as of the 01/01/2025, you can get free stringing from us through Kelvin. The club currently only offers Yonex BG65Ti, BG66 Force, Exbolt 63/65/68 strings.
Club T-Shirts
Shirts are currently available in S, M, L and XL. Please speak with Islam or Thomas for more information. Shirts are £15 each. Pictures can be seen on our Whatsapp Channel/Instagram Page. These are a variation of the shirts the organisers wear at each session.
Equipment Discount
We negotiated a discount for sports equipment at http://www.tennisnuts.com. There are two codes to use (but cannot be used with each other):
- 10% off - Use Username: LSBC10 / Password: discount. This should give you 10% off selected items. If it does not, it means the item is not eligible, so use the next code.
  Note: You may not need to use the password when you just enter in the code.

SESSION REMOVAL, NO SHOWS AND LATE CANCELLATION POLICY
We need your help to make it fair for others who want to play. These rules will apply to you:

Session Removal
Please see the Payment Process above
No Show
If you've signed up and you don't show up and you didn't pay OR if you've been bumped on from the waitlist at short notice and you didn't notice, you will be charged a No Show penalty.
Late Cancellations
If you cancel your spot within 24 hrs of the session starting and the session is not full or there was no waitlist, you will be charged a late cancellation fee. If people sign up to the session yet the session remains not full, this means your spot did not get taken and you are still liable to pay.
Note: Members with 2 no shows/late cancellations will be removed from the group unless outstanding payment is received
Note: If you are on the Waitlist and a spot becomes available, you will automatically be bumped onto the On list provided the event has not yet started. It is your responsibility to remove yourself from the Waitlist if you can no longer make it or if it's too short a notice for you to make it, to avoid being charged a no-show if someone cancels late, no matter how late.
Note: If you are on the Waitlist with a +1, you will be skipped by the system unless two spots becomes available at the same time. It is better to join the waitlist as individuals.
Note: Notification settings are set in your own personal preference, the club has no control as to what notifications you receive.

FAQs
IS THE CLUB OPEN TO BEGINNERS?

Yes - for our Monday and Thursday sessions. The majority of members are intermediate level but we have beginners and advanced players as well. It would be helpful if you have looked up the rules and basics before you come though!

HOW DO I PAY?

We are cashless! Please pay the session fee by Midnight of the session day
If payment is not received, you will be removed from the list

CAN I BRING A FRIEND?

Yes! Currently we allow you to bring a +1 with your RSVP. The +1 feature is intended to be for partners or friends that are attending for the first time or don't have their own meetup account.
It is not supposed to be used to book for other people at the club or used to offer spots to other people on the waitlist.
Note: If you are on the waitlist with a +1, the meetup system won't offer you a spot unless 2 spots are available at the same time. It is suggested that you only join the waitlist as an individual to ensure you are not skipped over.

THE LIST IS FULL, CAN I COME?

No, but you can add yourself to the waitlist so that when someone cancels, you WILL get a spot in the order of RSVP. (Just make sure to check if you've been 'given' a spot to avoid being charged No Show and if it's too short notice for you to attend, remove yourself from the waitlist/on list.)

CAN I PUT MY BIKE SOMEWHERE?

Unfolded bikes are not allowed inside the sports hall. The bikes can be stored at the bike rack near the bridge stairs. This is at the back of the sports hall, which you can access through the glass doors at the end of the corridor. Under no circumstances must anyone ride through the school corridors.

IS THERE CHANGING ROOM & SHOWER?

Yes, both.

DO I NEED TO BRING MY OWN SHUTTLECOCKS?

No, it's provided at the session.

I GOT BUMPED ON THE LIST FROM THE WAITLIST WITH 1 MINUTE TO SPARE, DO I HAVE TO PAY?

Yes. It is your responsibility to remove yourself from the waitlist when you know it is too short a notice for you to attend the session. The waitlist is automatic so as soon as someone cancels you get bumped on. So if you know you need 30mins to attend a session and you haven't gotten a spot by 6:30pm, then remove yourself from the waitlist to avoid last minute bumps.
