Brown Mountain Dam Waterfall Hike, La Canada Flintridge

Details
Note: This hike has been POSTPONED again due to a scheduling conflict. Please consult this page prior to heading out to join us!
I have never been to this particular trail before; I am going by the All Trails information (see photo above): “Discover this 8.4 mile out-and-back trail near La Canada Flintridge, California. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 3 h 4 min to complete. …The trail is open year round and is beautiful to visit anytime.”
I’d suggest that if you’re planning to join us, look up this route on AllTrails beforehand, so that we all are working with the same info.
There is apparently a parking lot off Windsor Road. That is where we will try to park. Google calls it “Windsor Blvd Bike Trailhead Parking Lot.” If you are delayed please TEXT me (my number is down below).
NOTICE:
National Parks Pass or Southern CA Adventure Pass is needed for parking here!
However we do intend to start branching out a little bit in this group, and starting to go to some more mountains areas. And so, being in possession of such a pass is probably an excellent idea, anyway.

Okay, so the regular rules/disclaimer all apply:
* I am personally vaxxed and boosted. However, I am not the COVID police. Join us at your own risk! If you have been exposed to COVID within the last week or you are experiencing ANY symptoms that might be COVID, PLEASE STAY HOME AND JOIN US NEXT TIME.
* I’m not a trained wilderness or medical professional. Everyone attending is responsible for their own self. Bring everything you need to be safe and comfortable: good hiking boots, comfortable clothes, bug spray, WATER, snacks, SUNSCREEN, HAT, SUNGLASSES, hiking poles, any medications you may need.
* No going off trail while you are hiking with us; this is potentially quite dangerous to humans and wildlife. It is definitely dangerous to the local plants, soil and all the critters that call this place home (due to soil erosion, soil compression, and potentially scaring or harming critters). Give wildlife a large margin of space; don’t follow it! No firearms; the only shooting is with cameras. Be extremely careful on paved roadways; no walking in the road. Group leader will offer one reminder and after that you’ll be asked to leave the group, possibly permanently. I’m strict with this because wildlife has no voice. We are guests in their home.
All Trails says dogs are welcome, on leash ONLY. If you are going to bring a dog, please make sure he/she is very well behaved and on leash at all times.
* This is a gentle, meandering group. I am recently recovering from a substantial back injury, and I’m not the only member who’s experienced some physical limitations recently. So this isn’t going to be a particularly long or bangin’ hike. This hike is described by All Trails as easy. We are likely to be turning around some time before the end of the trail turnaround point. Each participant is responsible to know their own physical limitations, and act accordingly. Orthopedic injuries and heart/lung conditions can be really tricky in any wilderness area.
* A good general guideline is, where there’s deer there’s ticks. I’d suggest keeping away from all brush & branches (etc) and then doing a tick check when you get home, just in case. Longer socks and organic bug spray might not be a bad idea, either.
Continuing our tradition of meeting for coffee/brunch afterwards:
Republik Coffee Lounge
854 E. Green Street
Pasadena CA 91101
Yelp says it has private lot parking, plenty of outdoor seating and a lovely menu!
I do NOT have MeetUp on my phone; and there may not be good reception out here anyway. If you are running late or need to contact us, TEXT ME at 562-243-9963.
Looking forward to seeing folks here!
