Join us for a fascinating and provocative conversation with Steve Strassmann of Overjet.ai about AI diseases, including forms of cancer. What does that mean and what can we do about it in the new age of artificial intelligence?
AIs can and do get cancer, that is, runaway malignant growths of internal origin that are toxic to the host and highly resistant to intervention. As they do in living organisms, tumors can arise in all artificial systems that employ iterative self-improvement. Steve will describe the published case of a self-modifying AI that developed unanticipated cancer nearly a half-century ago. He’ll also discuss how, over sufficiently long periods of time evolution itself evolves, replacing selection pressure with something else.
