Whole Earth Catalog 50th Anniversary

Details
The Long Now Foundation is holding a special event in San Francisco to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Whole Earth Catalog (http://blog.longnow.org/02018/09/12/whole-earth-catalog-50th-anniversary-celebration-takes-place-october-13/). I (your organizer Eric Boyd) personally am too young to have experienced it at the time, but I did read a lot about that time, and I have a copy of the Last Whole Earth Catalog, which I purchased from eBay many years ago. Let's meetup and talk about this iconic work - it's such a pleasure just to flip through it, so if you've never seen it, that alone will be worth the trip. If you have other copies/editions, please bring them too! We'll also have a wide-ranging discussion about the philosophy behind the Catalog, and what modern day projects bear any resemblance to it ("World Changing: a users guide to the 21st century" is the only one I can think of, and that was over 10 years ago now). Does eBay itself reflect a modern Catalog? How about YouTube? Is there ANY modern example of the positivity that the Catalog possessed? If not, why not?
