Description:
We'll kick off our adventure at Ng Fai Tin, starting at 150m. After about 2 km of walking, we’ll reach the highest point at 250m. From there, it’s mostly downhill until we make our way back up to High Junk Peak at 225m, where you'll enjoy stunning 360-degree views—perfect for capturing some amazing photos! This trail offers breathtaking vistas over the islands and beautiful bays of the Sai Kung and Clearwater Bay peninsulas. It’s a fantastic escape into nature, just minutes away from Tseung Kwan O. Along the way, we’ll also visit a lovely temple dedicated to Tin Hau, the goddess who protects fishermen, and check out an ancient rock inscription from the 13th century, marking a visit by an imperial official. Our hike wraps up at Po Toi O, a remote fishing village where you can enjoy a delicious seafood feast before heading back to the city. Don’t miss out on this incredible experience!
Highlights:
Tin Hou Temple: Tin Hau Temple, Joss House Bay, Sai Kung was protected as Declared Monument, the temple was built around 1266. This is the oldest and the largest Tin Hau Temple in Hong Kong which earns itself the name of "the Big Temple" (大廟).
Rock Inscription: The date marked on the inscription carved on the rock at Joss House Bay is the cyclical year of jiaxu of the Xianchun reign during the Southern Song Dynasty (1274), making this the oldest dated inscription to have been found in Hong Kong. The inscription records a visit to the area by a salt administration officer and his friend and relates the history of two temples, one to the north and one to the south of Fat Tong Mun.
What to bring:
- 3-4 liters of water (no exceptions)
- Snacks to eat along the way (sandwich, fruits, nuts, etc) (no exceptions)
- Hiking shoes with good support
- Sunglasses
- Headgear (cap/hat)
- Sunscreen
- Bug Spray
- In case of Rain: plan accordingly
Toilets: There is a toilet at the beginning and two towards the end of the trail. Please plan accordingly, as I cannot guarantee that they will be open or in good condition.
Stores: It is best to come prepared with food and water.
Meeting Point: Po Lam MTR - Exit A. Once everyone arrives we'll take minibus 16 and alight at Ng Fai Tin on Clearwater Bay Road, then carefully cross the road to start the trail.
Time: 10:00 am (SHARP!)
IMPORTANT: Out of respect to the members that arrive on time, we will only be able to wait a maximum of 5 minutes. Should you arrive after 10:05 am, I will no longer be answering phone calls or responding to messages as I need to give my time and attention to those that have arrived on time.
