Hike: Sai Wan Pavilion to Tai Long Wan

Difficulty Level: 3 out of 5

Distance: 12-14 km

Time: 6 hours

Description: Get ready for an amazing hike from Sai Wan Pavilion to Tai Long Wan! This trail is rated a moderate 3 out of 5 and covers about 12-14 km, taking around 6 hours to complete. You’ll be treated to some of Hong Kong’s most beautiful spots, including the four stunning beaches of Tai Long Wan: 1. Sai Wan Beach, 2. Ham Tin Beach, 3. Tai Wan Beach, and 4. Tung Wan Beach. With soft sandy shores and crystal-clear waters, it’s a paradise that feels worlds away from the city’s skyscrapers. Plus, this area is super cool from a geological perspective—the whole place used to be part of a massive supervolcano that erupted 140 million years ago!

Before you hit the next beach, make a quick stop at the Sai Kung Rock Pools at the end of Sai Wan Beach. It’s a hidden gem with tiered swimming pools and a waterfall fed by the Sheung Luk Stream, perfect for cooling off or even trying some cliff jumping! Just watch your step on the rocks—they can get slippery. Whether you’re after some adventure or just want to chill by the water, this hike has it all!

Speedboat Option for the Return to Sai Kung Pier: If anyone in the group wants to skip the last 3 km of the hike and head back to Sai Kung Pier, you can catch a speedboat from Ham Tin Beach. The ride costs between 120-160 HKD per person, so make sure to bring some cash! Enjoy the ride and hold on tight because it’s fast! At times, the boat feels like it’s defying gravity—such a thrill!
