World Labyrinth Day Walk

Details

TYPE: Weekly walk | PACE: Moderate | TERRAIN: paved sidewalk and crushed gravel trail | DISTANCE 2.0 miles | Every year on the first Saturday in May thousands of people around the globe participate in World Labyrinth Day as a walking meditation for world peace and celebration of the labyrinth experience.

Join me on World Labyrinth Day in Longmont!

Labyrinths are a meditation tool used worldwide for over 4,000 years. The labyrinth (different than a maze) has one path into the center and the same path out. One only needs to follow the path laid out in front of them to find one’s center. Just put one foot in front of the other, breath deeply, and let the labyrinth lead you (Releasing, Receiving, Returning).
There are two common labyrinths: the Greek 9-circuite classic Cretan labyrinth and the 11-circuit Chartres labyrinth, first created after the Chartres Cathedral in France. This labyrinth in Longmont at Saint Stephen’s Episcopal Church is a Chartres Labyrinth.

I will lead a short walk through Kanemoto Park where we will visit the Tower of Compassion. Donated by the Kanemoto family to the City of Longmont in 1973, each level of the Tower of Compassion stands for a branch of compassion — love, empathy, understanding, gratitude and selfless giving. Then we will cross the street to the labyrinth. I will provide an introduction to walking labyrinths.

We will meet at 11:00 am at the entrance to the Kanemoto Park at the parking lot on South Pratt Parkway, corner of South Coffman. Bring comfortable shoes, sunglasses, sun hat and water.

Join in with thousands of people across the world on World Labyrinth Day! See here all walks around the globe!

How to prepare: Bring essentials to meet your needs that may include a comfortable pair of shoes, clothing for appropriate weather, water, hat and sunglasses. Parking lot and washrooms are available.

Meet Up at the parking lot in front of Kanemoto Park: South Pratt Pkwy and South Coffman.

Walking Movement Leader: Darlene Williams
I’m a non-profit administrator and event manager, and former ballet artist. Longmont Walks has brought me much joy: great conversation, meeting local folks, health benefits, and nature walks in areas I wouldn’t normally go within my regular work week.

We are fortunate here in Longmont with many great nature walks!
