Heartbeats of Time: decolonial approaches to time's cycles and lines

Details

The core idea of the Long Now is that to improve our understanding of the world, we must think much farther ahead, and farther back, than usual. A decade, a century, a millennium, and more.

But what if our framework were not a line, but a circle, a plane, a torus, or a spiral? What is “long” about now then?

These and many other shapes of spacetime are central not just to modern cosmology, but ancient cosmographies as well, and the next session of the Barcelona Long Now Meetup will explore them with our latest speaker: Gustavo Nogueira de Menezes will discuss “The Heartbeat of Time: experiment with other temporalities through a decolonial approach.”

Originally from Brazil and currently living in Amsterdam, Gustavo is founder of Temporality Lab, where he and his team explore how a diverse repertoire of temporalities can help us remember where we came from, and face transformations in search of abundant futures.

Join us October 4 for an enlightening evening as we dive deep into the essence of time and temporalities. This talk delves into the fascinating intersection of our ancestral understanding of time and the modern perspectives we’ve constructed. It will be an inspiring journey of reflections on our relationship with time.

Doors open at 19:00 with wine and snacks to help the conversation flow; at 19:30 Gustavo begins. A 5€ donation to cover the cost of food is appreciated.

“Temporalities are forms of existence, different ways of being. In every tick of the clock and every beat of our heart, temporalities remind us of the diverse ways we exist and perceive.”
