Dear fellow book aficionados,
Our next theme is authoritarianism.

It is one of those subjects that literature has explored from every possible angle. Sometimes it appears through overt dictatorships and oppressive regimes. Sometimes it is far more subtle, revealing itself through conformity, censorship, surveillance, or the gradual erosion of individual freedom. Some books ask how authoritarianism comes to exist. Others explore how ordinary people choose to resist it, enable it, or simply survive under it.

As always, there is no single right interpretation of the theme. If your book has something meaningful to say about power, control, or the relationship between the individual and authority, it will probably fit. If it’s your first time, and the theme seems too daunting, remember that you are welcome to show up, join the discussion, and drink a glass of wine. Always keep that in mind.

For those who do have something connected to the theme, though, I’m curious to see what you will bring.
