Loreley (暴風女神, which means Goddess of the storm in Cantonese) dragon boat team has been established in HK for nearly 30 years. We were originally set up as a German team, but have evolved over time to become a mixed International team, welcoming anyone who wants to join a competitive team, but also have fun with lots of social events.
We take our training seriously, our main Water Training is on Sunday afternoons in Stanley, and on Tuesday evenings we hold land-training, starting with group training in the park, before moving into the gym to get stronger with the fantastic team from Strength Culture in Central.
We are competitive, and we get results.... We came in 2nd place overall in the most recent International Championship Race on Dragon Boat Festival day (June 2024) out of 131 Mixed Teams at Stanley, 2nd place overall at the 2023 race out of 119 teams, and we were the Gold Cup Champions at the Stanley Short Course Race (July 2023).
We have lots of different social events throughout the season, including team dinners at Shoreditch in Kennedy Town, drinks at Carbon Brews, who also sponsor us with beers to enjoy after our races, along with BubbleMe hard seltzer.
The social aspect is as important to us as being competitive on the water, and teammates become friends. We are open to people of all nationalities and professions, and whether you have paddled before, or are new to dragon boat, we will put in the training to work together as a team. All we ask for is to put in the effort during the training and races and to having fun with your teammates!
We also have sponsorship from Delphic HSE which helps us keep our member costs lower for each season.
We are also proud to be active members of Green Dragons HK, encouraging paddlers to keep the beaches and sea that we use clean, and pledge to paddle without single-use plastic bottles.
