Impromptu Meshtastic Event
Details
In light of frequent communication outages in Los Alamos County, residents are invited to Los Alamos Makers on Saturday, November 15, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m to explore Meshtastic, an innovative off-grid communication and location-sharing system, and chat about their experience using it.
Meshtastic uses small, low-power radios to create a resilient “mesh network” that allows people to send text messages and share GPS locations without relying on cell towers, Wi-Fi, or the internet. This makes it a valuable tool for staying connected with family members during emergencies, outages, and outdoor adventures in areas without reliable cell coverage.
Attendees will learn how Meshtastic works, see live demonstrations, and get hands-on experience setting up and using devices. Devices will also be available for purchase at the event, giving participants the chance to walk away ready to connect immediately.
